About Me

My photo
This blog is an amateur photographer's attempt to show how beautiful the world really is. He is drawn to the colors of nature like a moth to a candle light. What are showcased here are nature's grand display of colors at sunrise and sunset, beautiful beaches and off-the-beaten track locations in his beloved Philippines, waterfalls and some of nature's great sculptures, architectural gems, and other views from around SE Asia that he was fortunate to see at one point.

cebu: tropical sunset under the bridge

Under the Bridge

I try hard not to miss any sunrise or sunset when I am traveling. These are the only two times in a day when you see the place in its "Sunday best". Even if the weather looks unpromising, unless its raining cats and dogs, I always head out.

It was such an afternoon that time my family and I were in Cebu. We went around visiting the tourist traps the whole day and our last stop was a guitar factory in the island of Mactan. I purposely  tweaked our IT so that we are near where I wanted to shoot sunset by the end of the day.  Who says you can't shoot much while in a family vacation? :)

While the rest of our group headed back to our hotel, a friend and I asked to be dropped by the Marcello Fernan Bridge, one of the two bridges connecting Mactan to Cebu. If you are on the Mactan side, you'll have a nice vantage point  facing the west.

It drizzled a bit, I thought the sunset was lost. But then the sky opened up. What we saw was the most amazing display of light. Think of northern lights, but instead of green the sky was ablaze with crimson and orange light.

Tropical Light

The show lasted for a few minutes.  I noticed that colors are often off the charts whenever it rains just before the sunset.  As long as the clouds clear up just in time for the warm light to burst through, you'll always get an amazing sunset.

Channel Crossing

As a bonus, a rainbow formed on the opposite direction of the sunset, thanks to a drizzly sunset.
