About Me

My photo
This blog is an amateur photographer's attempt to show how beautiful the world really is. He is drawn to the colors of nature like a moth to a candle light. What are showcased here are nature's grand display of colors at sunrise and sunset, beautiful beaches and off-the-beaten track locations in his beloved Philippines, waterfalls and some of nature's great sculptures, architectural gems, and other views from around SE Asia that he was fortunate to see at one point.

cebu: temple of leah - an edifice of love

Temple of Leah

Standing grandly on a spot overlooking the whole of Cebu City, the temple looked out of place with its large Doric columns and statues of angels and Greek archers. The temple is not your usual temple - its not build for a religion, but as a symbol of one man's undying love and devotion.

Located in Brgy Busay (and on the way to a popular Cebu City destination called "Tops"), construction was started in 2012 by Teodorico Adarna in honor of his wife Leah Villa Albino-Adarna. (Taj Mahal comes to mind when I first read the description of this place)

Temple of Leah at Night

It was a cool evening when I first visited the place. A large courtyard with an ornate fountain greets every visitor. A wide stairs guarded by two lions leads to the main hall that houses a statue of Leah. From that vantage point, one can see a great view of Cebu City below.

The place's official hours (as of this writing) is from 6AM to 7PM, but they would sometimes keep the gates open until 9PM if there are still visitors.  However they close the access to the art collections (yes, Temple of Leah is also an art gallery and museum) after 7PM.

While far from being complete (there are several levels still under going constructions),  one can already see the grand vision for this place. Love knows no bounds after all.

City Watcher

I went there again very early to catch the sunrise and it did not disappoint.  The place has an unobstructed view of the east and you can watch the sunrise in its full glory. Enjoy these pics:

Travel guide

  • Official hours (6AM - 7PM)
  • Entrance fee: Php 50.00
  • Getting there by taxi: Cabs know the place well as its on the same vicinity as other attractions in the city (Lantaw Busay and Tops).  A two-way trip will set you back about Php 1,200.00 (depending on your haggling skills), the taxi will wait for you for 2 hours (again depending on how you haggle). No jeeps going there.
  • Getting there by motocycle: They have a terminal in JY square.  They charge you Php 300.00 for a two-way trip.
  • Google Map
Here's a quick time lapse of how my sunrise shoot there (best viewed in 1080p). I think one of the firsts (or maybe the first one) to actually shoot sunrise there or make a sunrise time-lapse

It is a promising architecture. :)

I find that the cheapest way to get there is through a shuttle bus from Jollibee IT Park. But the schedule isn't fixed. I observed that the van leaves the temple every hour from the temple.

You can also try taking a cab from JY Square, Lahug thru GrabTaxi with a pre-negotiated rate. I typed the 300-350 range on the "Note to Driver" and it was accepted. It was a Sunday afternoon.

Happy traveling!
