About Me

My photo
This blog is an amateur photographer's attempt to show how beautiful the world really is. He is drawn to the colors of nature like a moth to a candle light. What are showcased here are nature's grand display of colors at sunrise and sunset, beautiful beaches and off-the-beaten track locations in his beloved Philippines, waterfalls and some of nature's great sculptures, architectural gems, and other views from around SE Asia that he was fortunate to see at one point.

baguio: mines view sunrise

Even one of the most famous tourist trap in Baguio, Philippine's quintessential "summer capital", looks different (in a good way) during sunrise.

Sneaking out to shoot is a bit difficult when you are in a family vacation. The typical day consist visiting a tourist trap, snapping posterity photos, and then moving on to the next one. By late afternoon, just when the light is starting to get warm and beautiful, you are already heading home because everyone's tired. On the way home you see the clouds burst into colors and you wish you can stop and take a photo. Nope, everyone's tired.

The best way is to actually shoot at sunrise. Everyone's asleep and there is no one to bother you. So its just what my brother and I did a couple of weeks ago when we were in Baguio.

Baguio is a popular destination and no place remains there that had not been shot to death by DSLR totting visitors. Our choice of location, Mines View Park, is crowded even on a typical weekday. But for two successive mornings we were able to enjoy the place and see it in a different light.

The first time I shot sunrise in Mines View was more than 5 years ago. During that time what I had was just a point and shoot camera. It was a beautiful experience back then, and it still is.
