About Me

My photo
This blog is an amateur photographer's attempt to show how beautiful the world really is. He is drawn to the colors of nature like a moth to a candle light. What are showcased here are nature's grand display of colors at sunrise and sunset, beautiful beaches and off-the-beaten track locations in his beloved Philippines, waterfalls and some of nature's great sculptures, architectural gems, and other views from around SE Asia that he was fortunate to see at one point.

lantaw: 2012 in photos (part 1 of 2)

Lake Seloton: Sunrise Lake

I was fortunate to have gone to some of the most beautiful places in the Philippines last year. I have plenty of favorite images, and here are some of them. A good part of the year was spent close to home.  Some of my top favorites this year are photos of amazing sunrises and sunsets (but come to think about it, if you have been reading this blog for some time now, they are always my favorites!).

January
My trip home would not be complete without a visit to Lake Sebu, ancestral domain of the T'boli and Ubo tribes and birthplace of T'nalak weaving.

Within a week of returning to Manila, I found myself hiking to one of the hidden beauties in Laguna. Buntot Palos' massive size is always a joy and a challenge to shoot.

From chasing waterfalls, I shifted to a higher gear, literally. Together with some friends I visited, for the first time, the famous Batad Rice Terraces. Its nicknamed "stairway to heaven" for obvious reasons.

February
Its back to chasing waterfalls in February. I hiked up to Buruwisan Falls in Mt. Romelo (Siniloan, Laguna). Twice.

2012 seems to be a year of firsts. It between the visits to Buruwisan Falls is a first time hike to Mt. Batulao in Batangas.

March
While the rest are starting to gear up for the summer, I had the chance to slow things down in the town of Mayantoc (Tarlac) - the quintessential rural town

It was the town's fiesta and we had the chance to see the "perya" (traveling fair), a truly country side spectacle.

Just before March ended, things begin to pick up speed and I headed to Siquijor (with a quick stop at Dumaguete), the Isla del Fuego (island of fire) and the island of magic, for a solo trip.

I scheduled my trip to Siquijor one week before the Holy Week to avoid the huge crowd that gravitates to the island during this time. Almost all the photos I took are favorites.

April
April started with a trip back home for a quiet Holy Week in Lake Sebu and a first time visit to the Baras Bird Sanctuary in the neighboring town of Tacurong (Sultan Kudarat).

April ended with a summer trip to Cebu and Bohol with the whole family.  I managed to sneak out a few times to shoot the sunrise and sunset :).

May
I was back again in Lake Sebu before May ended for an outreach activity in one of the highland villages. It was a tiring yet fulfilling endeavor, punctuation by a beautiful lake side sunset.

It's spelled "Silliman". Incredibly beautiful pictures, by the way. No wonder lakadpilinas is over the moon about your blog. - Jared
