About Me

My photo
This blog is an amateur photographer's attempt to show how beautiful the world really is. He is drawn to the colors of nature like a moth to a candle light. What are showcased here are nature's grand display of colors at sunrise and sunset, beautiful beaches and off-the-beaten track locations in his beloved Philippines, waterfalls and some of nature's great sculptures, architectural gems, and other views from around SE Asia that he was fortunate to see at one point.

lake sebu: more colors and moods

Lotus Blooms at Sunrise in Lake Sebu

Here are a few more of Lake Sebu's moods and colors. I sometimes think I know the place very well, only to be (pleasantly) proven wrong.

I often shoot sunrise at Lake Seloton, Lake Sebu's three lakes (Btw, if this is your first name to hear about Lake Sebu is confused with the name, "Lake Sebu" is both the name of the town and the main lake. The town as 2 other lakes: Lake Seloton and Lake Lahit). It is nicknamed the "sunrise lake" as its supposed to have the best view of sunrise in Lake Sebu.

One morning we woke up too late to head to Lake Seloton for the sunrise. A frantic search and serendipity lead to a quiet nook in the main lake. The result was the image above. It was like Lake Sebu saying: "you haven't seen it all yet". I took the shot while being waist high in the water. Somehow I did not mind.

Lake Sebu Verdant Fields and Hills at Sunset

Lake Sebu is not all about the lakes and the waterfalls (or the zip line and the tilapia). Its verdant fields, hills, and surrounding mountains look amazing during the golden hours. I chanced upon the scene above while returning from a trek to Traang-kini. One of these days I'll return to this spot and shoot the glorious colors of sunset.

Morning Reflections at Lake Seloton

While its true that Lake Seloton is a favorite spot for shooting sunrise, the great colors are not always found at the east. The serene looking scene above was shot facing the opposite direction. Sometimes it pays to break the convention and look the other way.

The challenge with outdoor photography is that you have drag yourself out of bed while the whole world still sleeps, and stay out late while everyone else is already enjoying their dinner. Sometimes the weather conspires against you, or does it really?

Unless its raining cats and dogs, I still make it a point to head out. Some of the best sunsets I've seen were during the rainy season when the rain lets up for a while and the clouds part just in time for the setting sun.

The following photos were taken one rainy afternoon when one would normally call it a day already and sip coffee by the lake side while waiting for dinner. Just when you think the day is over, Lake Sebu throws you a pleasant surprise.
