About Me

My photo
This blog is an amateur photographer's attempt to show how beautiful the world really is. He is drawn to the colors of nature like a moth to a candle light. What are showcased here are nature's grand display of colors at sunrise and sunset, beautiful beaches and off-the-beaten track locations in his beloved Philippines, waterfalls and some of nature's great sculptures, architectural gems, and other views from around SE Asia that he was fortunate to see at one point.

lantaw: 2012 in photos (part 2 of 2)

The journey continues. Here are more of my favorite photos from 2012 (you may want to check out part 1 of this post as well).

I took a breather in the month of June, but was back on traveling by July.  This time I headed to the chilly mountain community of Imugan with some of my closest travel buddies.

No traffic, no cellphone signals, no emails, no crowds. I was happy to be rid of the things most folks consider “essential”, even for just a weekend.

August
Being a "waterfalls guy", it was a dream come true to be able to visit Bislig (Surigao del Sur in eastern Mindanao) and shoot the famous Tinuy-an Falls.

A side trip to the Enchanted River in the nearby Hinatuan (adjacent town) made the trip even more worthwhile.

Before heading back to Manila for work, I swung by my favorite spot in Maasim, Sarangani for a sunrise shoot. It was an overcast sunrise, but I love the shots I was able to get.

September
Its more waterfalls hunting in September. This time its a pristine and undeveloped (thank goodness!) spot in Majayjay (Laguna) called Bukal Falls.

Bukal/Bucal Falls aka Kilangin Falls

The adjacent town of Liliw also lay claim to the area. Its not really a big wonder why. The place is just so unbelievable untouched, for now anyway.

October
Its another off-the-beaten track in October. The sleepy town of Concepcion in northern Iloilo is the gateway to small beautiful islands in that part of Panay. One of my favorites is the Bulubadiangan/Bolobadiangan island with its long sandbar.

We were also blessed with beautiful sunset and sunrise colors during our short stay on the island.

November
Things are started to get busy for the holidays (in the Philippines, preparation for the Christmas season starts as early as September). I had the opportunity to come home for the Todos Los Santos (All Saints' Day) after so many years of missing it.

A visit to Manila bay reminded me that you don't have to visit some far flung exotic location to catch good light. Sometimes its just right at your doorstep.

The light show at the Ayala Triangle gardens in Makati is one of favorite events to shoot during the holiday season. Its accessible and it offers the opportunity to shoot in Makati (at least in that general area of the garden) without requiring a permit.

December
The holiday season is in full swing, and its difficult to schedule a trip. In between reunions, Christmas parties, and other holiday preparations, I managed to squeeze in a few quick shoots here and there.

A trip back home would not be complete without a visit to Lake Sebu.

In hindsight, 2012 was good year. There were bumps on the road, but what's important is that we have managed to get past them.

A Clear Path Through
there is always a path through

I wish everyone the best of luck in 2013!
