This small brick church in the town of Liliw (popular for its slippers) in Laguna is one of the picturesque churches in the province, perfect for those on 'visita iglesia' trail (especially during Lent).
Its formally called the St. John the Baptist Parish Church and was established around 1605, making it more than four centuries old! It has undergone reconstruction and repairs over the years but the main structure is well preserved.
I've seen pictures of the church's facade taken on a sunny day and the bright red color of the bricks can be striking. I could imagine the same scene late in the afternoon when the light is warmer. It would be a sight to behold. Unfortunately I was not afforded the opportunity to shoot it at that ideal time.
The interior is well kept. A mass was ending at the time we visited the church. The altar was fully lighted and it was magnificent even from afar.
To best see and appreciate the fine details, I went nearer after the mass. The priest was kind enough to keep the lights on for a few minutes. Although the altar is not huge, it certainly looked grand, with the intricate designs of the retablo enhanced by the different colored lights.
With such a beautiful church like this, I would not mind going to mass everyday :)
