Scenic rocky coves, caves, a small lake, different species of mangroves, and rich marine life: these are just some of the charms that leave one enthralled in Villa Igang. Tucked in a rocky cove in the town of Nueva Valencia, Villa Igang is the perfect secluded place for a quiet getaway.

When a friend asked me where I wanted to stay in Guimaras, I told her I preferred to stay "somewhere uncrowded". The no-frills Villa Igang, formerly known as Puerto del Mar, fits the bill perfectly.

Unlike the long stretch of cream colored sand of Alubihod (a popular destination on the western side of Guimaras island), Villa Igang is composed of small coves and nooks, each awaits for you to discover.

The villas, spread nicely on the several hectares of resort grounds, blends with the landscape. A couple are up on a small hill, several are snug under the shade of large trees, while more lie well hidden in a small dale.

Along Villa Igang's cliffs you'll see old weather beaten trees and several specifies of coastal shrubs. The resort takes the conservation of these tropical flora seriously.

A large portion of the resort is also dedicated to the propagation and conservation of mangroves. The first sight that will greet you once you enter the resort premises is a dirt road lined with mangroves on both sides.

At the time of our visit, a walkway is being constructed into the heart of the area where the mature trees are. The trees are labeled to properly indicate the specie. It's a perfect place for a stroll if you want to have a quick respite from the heat of the beach.

Air-conditioned and fan rooms are available. Price ranges from Php 700 - 1500. A fan room that can fit 6 persons comfortably can be rented for Php 700 pesos only.

how to get there
From Ortiz Wharf in downtown Iloilo, hop on a ferry going to Jordan (pronounced as "Hordan") wharf in Guimaras. Travel time is 15 minutes, fare is Php 13.00.You can rent a multi-cab (can accommodate 8 persons) to take you directly to Villa Igang for Php 400. Travel time is 40 minutes.
You can also ride the public jeepneys bound for Nueva Valencia. However, the resort is still about 2-3 kilometers from the main road. You can call the resort to have one of their tricycles fetch you at the drop off point.

- Island hopping: lots of islets and sandbars near/along Brgy Igang's shore.

wow! i thought my point and shoot photos of villa igang nueva valencia, yours were superb. i didn't know villa igang renovated their rooms and guesthouses, i don't know but i stayed in this room where there's a little beach a few steps down. stayed there alone and is remembering how nice this place is. hands down the most beautiful province of visyas. sunsets are sick here!!! nice photos awesome blog!

Ang bongga! Dahil sa sobrang ganda ng 'rocky cliff and emerald waters' hindi ko napansin na may tao pala sa taas. Ang ganda talaga. Sobrang nice ng shots mo. Kailangan ko rin to marating. I love places which are not known to a lot of people. Pati yung mga hindi madaling mapuntahan. Shellfish! hahaha!

BURGLARIZED BY EMPLOYEES, IGNORED BY MANAGEMENT I am not the first foreigner to be robbed at Villa Igang -- the same thing happened to an Austrian man in 2012 as well. I am an American traveler and I stayed at Villa Igang, a resort owned by the Lacson family in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras Island during October 2012. During the stay, we were the only guests at the resort, and the location is very remote -- yet our room was broken in to (obviously by workers). Our laptops, cell phones, wallets -- everything valuable was stolen. Breaking into the room was easy of course because the rooms are so poorly designed. At first, the workers did not want to even call the police, but we finally forced them to do it. Even after the police came, the manager told us we cannot change rooms -- they actually MADE us stay in the same room that was broken into! WOW! We did not sleep at all that night, afraid they will just come in again. When we got back to Iloilo, we spoke with the owners and managers of the resort, the family that runs the John B. Lacson Maritime University -- Ms. Marylou Arcelo and Ms. Lorlyn Aranador. They promised us they would conduct an investigation, they would travel to Guimaras in person, and that they would be in contact with us. But for the next 6 weeks, the owners REFUSED to even respond to email -- in fact, they were on vacation (how I wish my vacation was as peaceful as theirs) in California, USA, about 10 minutes from where I live. So it would have been easy for them to just reply, or give me a phone number to call. Instead, I was forced to fight with their insurance company with NO assistance from Villa Igang. Ultimately, I was also forced to hire a lawyer and in the end I received a small amount of compensation (less than HALF the value of the items stolen). Villa Igang management showed that they were not only incompetent and unprofessional, but also dishonest. THIS RESORT IS NOT SAFE, ESPECIALLY FOR FOREIGN TRAVELERS. Avoid it at all costs -- and really, avoid any business run by the Lacson family. If something goes wrong, you cannot count on them at all.
