With distinctive spire and rose-pearl facade glowing in the morning sun, Baguio Cathedral is an unmistakenable landmark in the City of Pines.
It is located on top of the hill adjacent to Session Road - Baguio's main thorough fare and main business hub, hence it is very accessible. The church can get quite crowded on Sundays as both tourists and locals alike head there to hear Mass.
More photos and tidbits about the cathedral:
- see of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Baguio
- served as evacuation center during WWII and survived the Allied Forces' carpet bombing during the last days of the war (liberation in 1945). Remained of those who died during the bombing are interred within the cathedral precinct
- construction of the church began in 1920. The cathedral was finally consecrated in 1936 and dedicated to Our Lady of Atonement
