Masjid Jamae, located in Chinatown’s “3-temple street” and just adjacent to the Hindu temple, is one of Singapore’s oldest mosque (established in 1826)
Quick facts about the mosque:
- Also known as Chulia Mosque, Maideen Mosque and the Big Mosque among the Tamil Muslim community in Singapore
- The street beside it is now aptly called Mosque Street
- the mosque has remained largely unchanged since its completion in 1830
- Also considered of Singapore’s National Monuments
One can feel a sense of calm and peace inside the mosque [quick note: green robes are available at the entrance if you are wearing inappropriate clothes. Remember to leave your footwear as well].
The entrance leads to an airy foyer (or lobby) and the main prayer hall (off limits to non-Muslims).
